This being Spring Break for schools in Greenwood and Greenville counties, it’s a great time to refresh our minds with some good reading. A Forbes blog last week highlighted seven useful new business books that could bring new perspectives into your work-life.
Three, in particular, caught our eyes. Each deals with challenging the accepted norms in work and life:
• Tipping Sacred Cows: Kick the Bad Work Habits that Masquerade as Virtues. Author Jake Breeden examines generally accepted things business managers do — collaboration, creativity and preparation — and shows how they can become huge time sucks. Breeden gives step-by-step guides for how we can stop striving for these empty virtues and start using our time and resources more wisely.
• Decisive: How to Make Better Choices in Life and Work. Brothers Chip and Dan Heath, authors of the great book Made to Stick, return with thoughts on what drives our day-to-day choices and how to make better decisions. Based on an exhaustive study of the decision-making literature, the Heaths introduce a 4-step process designed to counteract our natural biases.
• The Icarus Deception: How High Will You Fly. The celebrated guru of personal branding Seth Godin is back with a new look at how to overcome societal constraints and follow your passion in business.
These are just our suggestions. Visit the blog, explore and select a new book to rejuvenate during the break!
