Three Tips to a Happy Workplace

Recently, a Gallup study found that 70 percent of American workers were disengaged on the job and the average worker only stayed at a company for a little over 4 years.

So what does this mean to business owners? An estimated $550 billion in lost productivity.

Engage and retain your employees by bringing happiness into the workforce with these three tips:

Get moving. – Think about an employee wellness program for your business. It could be as large-scale as an in-office gym or as simple as taking the team to a weekly yoga class or a long walk during lunch. According to the University of Warwick study, healthy employees are happier, more likely to be present and more likely to add value to the company.

Create a pet-friendly environment. – Research from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Business has found that having animals in the workplace helps buffer stress and makes the job more satisfying. Employees are more productive, happier and less stressed when they bring their four-legged friends to the office.

Give your employees feedback. – Less than one-third of workers feel their company is willing to change based on employee feedback. Implement a program that lets your employees know that they are being heard. Talk through smart suggestions with them and recognize their efforts. Make them feel comfortable to speak up and contribute.

Make happiness a priority within your company’s culture. By giving your team a reason to smile every day, you’re giving them a reason to stay and, in turn, giving your company a productivity boost.
