According to the 2015 S.C. Manufacturers Directory, manufacturing jobs in South Carolina have grown for the third straight year.
Of its 4,735 manufacturers, South Carolina has added 5,848 jobs in the last year alone – a 2.2 percent increase. That is nearly double the national average of 1.4 percent reported by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Within South Carolina, manufacturing employment increases have been led by the transportation equipment industry (10.5 percent increase). This industry now employs 36,264 workers in S.C.
The Upstate accounts for the largest share of industrial employment with 170,693 manufacturing jobs – a 1.7 percent increase from last year. Of the Upstate, Greenville reigns supreme with 24,154 jobs and a 1.5 percent increase.
Since 2011, the Palmetto state has increased manufacturing jobs by 5.1 percent, outpacing the United States overall gain of 3.3 percent.
South Carolina now employs 269,694 manufacturing workers.
