We all want to provide an enjoyable and productive workplace for our employees. Unfortunately, many business owners assume the best way to encourage productivity is to discourage fun. But this isn’t the case. In fact, there are multiple ways to keep productivity high while allowing for a fun and fluid work culture.
Help your employees feel more appreciated, more relaxed, happier and be better equipped to do their jobs by implementing these institutions for an improved work culture:
1. Encourage breaks. – Breaks allow employees to refresh their minds. This makes for better problem-solving and more creative thinking. Encourage your team to take breaks a few times a day. Set up a dedicated break room with coffee and snacks for employees to de-stress and reboot.
2. Socialize offsite. – Companies where co-workers get along as friends tend to succeed more than companies where employees keep their distance. Hold opportunities for offsite socialization by taking your team to lunch or attending a community event during the workday together.
3. Celebrate achievements. – Many companies recognize achievements through raises, bonuses and promotions. Few make the effort to genuinely celebrate the achievements of their staff. If your team accomplishes something major, treat them to a real celebration. Let them off the hook for the second half of the workday to eat, drink and be merry at the office!
4. Focus on productivity, not scheduling. – Instead of setting strict schedules and rules, give your employees the flexibility to complete their work in their own way. Allow work-from-home days, flex time and longer breaks. Your employees know how they work best so enable them to do their best work by allowing them a flexible work schedule.
