The good thing about starting your own business is that you’ve already established the things that work for you. However, what it took to start a company is different from what it takes to run a successful business. How do you take your business from a startup to a success?
As Marshall Goldsmith once said, “What got you here, won’t get you there.”
To become a successful CEO of a small business, you must develop better habits. Very few CEOs get by on chance and charisma. Think to yourself, “What is already working for me?” and build from this solid foundation.
Success is a day-to-day commitment to doing things that maximize your performance. Tweak your already successful habits so they continue to work for you. In other words, find a new set of complementary habits–habits that will work with the skills, talents and abilities you already have, not replace them.
The process is simpler than it sounds: Take a small step toward a goal, evaluate what you learned from taking this step, build on what you’ve learned, decide what the next step should be and repeat.
Tedious? Perhaps. But you have to do the work to find out what works best for you.
